Liverpool beat Southampton 3-2Salah bags brace in St Mary's winHits another milestone for the RedsFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?
With Liverpool 2-1 down after 56 minutes, the Egyptian international scored twice in the final half hour to secure Arne Slot's team a huge 3-2 victory at St Mary's on Sunday. Incidentally, that brought up the 32-year-old's 100th goal away from Anfield.

Liverpool's win over lowly Southampton took them eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League title race. The Reds still have 26 games to go but this was a seismic three points for Slot's team, especially as they were a long way off their best. And once again, they had their talisman Salah to thank for this victory.
DID YOU KNOW?
Since Salah swapped Roma for Liverpool in 2017, the former Chelsea man has scored a whopping 221 goals and bagged 99 assists in 366 appearances for the Merseyside outfit. The winger may add quite a few more goals and assists before the season is over, too.

Salah will hope to be in the goals once again when his Liverpool side, who are unbeaten in this season's Champions League, take on defending champions Real Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday night.
After losing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Marseille this summer, Tottenham Hotspur could be about to bid farewell to another player, with a European club now considering a move.
Tottenham transfer news
It's been a mixed summer for those in north London, who have so far welcomed just two reinforcements in the form of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. The latter particularly stands out as a solid piece of business, but given that the Leeds United academy graduate is still just 18 years old, it remains to be seen how much he can impact Ange Postecoglou's starting side. And whilst welcoming a young player, Spurs have sold an experienced midfielder in Hojbjerg.
The Dane may not be the last player to head for the exit door, either, as Daniel Levy gets ruthless this summer. According to reports in Turkey (via The Spurs Web), Galatasaray have now joined the race to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham this summer, putting themselves alongside the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Milan to sign the right-back before the window slams shut at the end of next month.
Tottenham have been in talks with £100k-per-week forward's camp for months
The Lilywhites regularly contact his representatives.
ByEmilio Galantini Jul 26, 2024
Earning a reported £40k-a-week, Royal has struggled at times in north London and the arrival of Gray hands Postecoglou the right-back cover he needs for Pedro Porro. With European clubs lining up to sign Royal, it would be a deal worth sanctioning for the Lilywhites. What's more, Galatasaray could kill two birds with one stone for Spurs given that they're also reportedly interested in signing Bryan Gil – although he seems close to a move to La Liga outfit Girona.
richarlison-bryan-gil-tottenham-opinion
With the Premier League campaign approaching, Spurs have just a matter of weeks to hand Postecoglou the strongest squad possible to open his second season in charge.
Tottenham no longer need "outstanding" Royal
Considering Royal struggled for starts last term, the emergence of Gray could only make matters worse next season. As things stand, the Lilywhites simply no longer need the Brazilian, despite Postecoglou's praise last season. The Spurs boss said via Football.london: "I see it on a daily basis, others don’t, but if you watch Emerson Royal train every day, you’d think he plays every game.
"He’s just outstanding with his attitude and demeanour around the place. There’s no time for anyone to feel down. When you see a guy like Emerson, and we’ve got a few in that boat this year like Fraser [Forster] or Ben [Davies], they train so hard every day, always have the greatest disposition in terms of their demeanour, it doesn’t give anyone else an excuse to not feel up for it."
A move to the likes of Milan, Dortmund or, indeed, Galatasaray wouldn't exactly be a bad next step either, but Spurs will want to make sure that they're cashing in on their right-back even if he is surplus to requirements in north London. With a month left until the window slams shut, the Lilywhites still have plenty to do.
Robin Jackman, the former Surrey and England seamer who went on to become one of the leading broadcasters in South African cricket, has died at the age of 75.Jackman, who made his Test debut in 1981 at the age of 35, claimed 14 wickets at 31.78 in his four England appearances, and also featured in 15 ODIs between 1974 and 1983.However, he was arguably most famous for the match that he did not play, at Guyana on England’s tour of the West Indies in 1980-81, when his connections to Apartheid South Africa – through his wife Yvonne, and through his longstanding cricketing association with the country – led to the cancellation of the second Test of the series.Jackman had earned his place on that winter’s Caribbean tour on the back of a stellar county season for Surrey, who finished second in the County Championship behind their London rivals Middlesex, thanks in no small part to his haul of 121 wickets at 15.40.In the course of a domestic career that began in 1966, Jackman took more than 1400 first-class wickets at 22.80, and scored 5681 runs at 17.69, with 17 half-centuries. His career-best of 8 for 40 came for Rhodesia against Natal in 1972-73.Jackman was born in India in 1945 and grew up in England, but coached and played for Rhodesia and Western Province over 11 seasons, a relationship that led the Guyana government to deny him a visa on that 1980-81 England tour. When the English management chose not to yield to political pressure, the match was abandoned, and the series moved on to Barbados. Jackman was recalled in place of the injured Bob Willis and claimed five wickets in the match, including Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes and Clive Lloyd. However, he was unable to prevent West Indies claiming a 298-run win for an unassailable 2-0 lead. After retirement, Jackman moved into the media, and became a regular commentator for the South African broadcaster Supersport. In 2012, he was diagnosed with throat cancer, having already undergone two operations to remove malignant tumours from his vocal chords. He passed away at 3.30pm South Africa time on Christmas Day, and is survived by his wife Yvonne and two daughters. His death comes just 48 hours after that of his former Surrey team-mate John Edrich, who died aged 83 on December 23.The ICC reacted to the news in a statement: ‘We are saddened to learn about the death of legendary commentator and former England bowler Robin Jackman, who has passed away aged 75. The thoughts of the cricketing world go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.’In a statement on Boxing Day, CSA’s interim board described Jackman as “a household voice for all who loved and followed cricket”, and South Africa will wear black armbands in his memory on the second day of their Test against Sri Lanka.”Always passionate and knowledgeable, he was also known for his big-hearted enjoyment of life. In 2012 he was diagnosed with cancer of the vocal chords. He continued commentating for a while and was also very actively involved in fundraising for the Mercy Ships and Grace Vision.”His passing, a few days after the death of his former Surrey team-mate, John Edrich, leaves a void in the cricketing world but particularly in South African cricketing life. We mourn the loss of a fine man, a lover of life, a cricket aficionado and a commentator who became part of the fabric of South African cricket in so many ways.”
Liverpool have reportedly made an enquiry over a possible move to sign a club captain who has a £19m release clause.
Arne Slot eyeing reunions at Liverpool
It could well be a busy first transfer window for Arne Slot at Anfield, with the Dutchman able to work alongside CEO Michael Edwards, sporting director Richard Hughes and technical director Julian Ward when it comes to bringing in new players.
Liverpool-Arne-Slot
It has been a complete off-field shake-up by FSG as the Reds target Premier League glory once again, and it seems as if Slot could actually look at signing players he has worked with in the past.
Reports have suggested that Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh, who spent last season on loan at Feyenoord, is a target for Liverpool, with the Magpies potentially needing to sell to keep in line with FFP.
Meanwhile, Slot is also thought to be keen on signing Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida, with the 23-year-old capable of playing as a right-back, centre-back or holding midfielder.
It won’t all be players who Slot has managed in the past, though, with Liverpool thought to be readying an offer for Benfica midfielder Joao Neves. And now, contact has reportedly been made for a new target.
Liverpool make Waldemar Anton enquiry
According to journalist Felix Arnold, previously of Sky Sports and now a reporter for BILD, Liverpool have made a first enquiry to sign Waldemar Anton from VfB Stuttgart.
“England's top club @LFC has inquired about captain Waldemar #Anton from @VfB Stuttgart. In addition to LFC @BVB and #B04 are also interested in the defensive leader from Stuttgart, who will be available in the summer for €22.5 million thanks to a release clause.”
A race could be on to sign the 27-year-old, who is primarily a centre-back but can turn out a right-back and as a defensive midfielder. The Stuttgart captain has also been selected in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad.
Coming through the youth ranks at Hannover 96, Anton made the move to Stuttgart in 2020 and has gone on to make 141 appearances, more than the 137 he managed for his previous employers.

This talented midfielder could prove to be the final piece of the puzzle at Anfield.
ByAngus Sinclair Jun 11, 2024
He appears to be at the top of his game with a career-high €20m Transfermarkt valuation, so a £19m deal could be seen as good value, especially with the Reds on the hunt for a new defender to replace the outgoing Joel Matip. Anton came in for praise from Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeneß lat last year, who said:
"Waldi flys a bit under the radar. He plays incredibly consistently, is an unbelievable stabilizing factor, and makes very few mistakes. That's a very important characteristic for a defender. Both on and off the ball, Waldi has delivered performances that render him worthy of a look [for the national team].
"I don't mean to demand anything. There are plenty of other lads who are also good. But Waldi has played a really good season. Waldi is solid in so many areas. He brings the overall package. He's a real leader not just in matches but also in training. He fulfills that role uniquely."
Celtic are among those chasing a move for a former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich talent this summer, but will face stiff competition for his signature.
Rodgers keen to build on success
Though at times it looked unlikely, Brendan Rodgers did end up with a domestic double to crown his first season as Celtic boss (this time around), scooping the Scottish Cup as well as the Scottish Premiership, both at the expense of Rangers.
They are keen to make Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo's loan moves permanent this summer, with the former in particular having had a transformational effect on Celtic's attack.
Joining from Norwich in midseason, Idah scored 9 goals in 19 games and grabbed a further 2 assists, leading Rodgers to admit he wanted the 23-year-old to be signed permanently.
“Hopefully we can do something. He has a long-term contract at Norwich but he is definitely one I would love to bring back here. At 23 with the potential and quality he has I think he can really push on in his career.”
But their transfer business will stretch beyond loanees this summer, and they appear to have identified a potential gem.
Bhoys chasing ex-Real Madrid prodigy
Now, Celtic have been credited with an interest in Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc, who spent his formative years among footballing royalty. The defender, who has spent the second half of the season on loan with RB Salzburg, developed his skills at Real Madrid initially as an attacking midfielder, where he was singled out for his playmaking qualities before moving to the Bayern Munich youth set up on a free transfer.
In Bavaria, he played alongside the likes of Jamal Musiala, Joshua Zirkzee and Josip Stanisic at youth level, where he was converted to a centre-back after "having impressed there when the team was short of defenders".

According to Bayern Munich's academy boss Jochen Sauer, "he had very good technique” as an attacking midfielder, but "had a great presence in central defence, exuded confidence and conviction".
Though Bayern wanted to keep him at the club, he opted to leave in search of regular football, and after stints at Nice and Salernitana, he spent the second half of the season with Austrian giants RB Salzburg, making 11 appearances across their backline.
Now, reports from Germany [Via the Sun] claim that Celtic are monitoring his situation, with the Hoops "in the race" to land him this summer alongside Salzburg, who have an option to buy the player as part of the loan agreement from the now Serie B outfit.

With three appearances for Austria to date, Daniliuc is likely to want top flight football once more next season and Celtic could offer him that, along with a spot in next season's Champions League.
However, the 23-year-old could also return to his homeland on a permanent basis should he wish, which could be hard for the Hoops to rival.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will wait on Mitchell Marsh’s fitness after the fast-bowling allrounder went down in his first over of their IPL 2020 opening game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Marsh came on to bowl in the fifth over the Royal Challengers innings, but seemed to twist his ankle while attempting to field an Aaron Finch punch in his follow through. Though he bowled two more balls, he had to go off the field with Vijay Shankar completing the over.Marsh also came out to bat, though he was visibly limping. He batted only at No.10, coming out because the Sunrisers suffered a collapse to lose the game by 10 runs. He was out first ball though, and had to be helped off the field by the Sunrisers’ support staff.ALSO SEE: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad live score 20th September 2020After the match, Sunrisers captain David Warner admitted that Marsh’s injury didn’t “look great”, and said he would be going for an X-ray.”Doesn’t look great,” Warner told Star, the host broadcaster. “A lot of courage from him to walk out there and try his best, but it was unfortunate tonight. He’s got to get an X-ray, hopefully it’s not too bad. It doesn’t look great. Obviously what you saw out there, it was quite painful, he can’t put any weight on it. Fingers crossed.”Marsh was expected to provide a solid bowling option while also shoring up the Sunrisers’ inexperienced middle order. His unavailability is likely to cause a few selection dilemmas for the Sunrisers, who also have Kane Williamson sitting out with a quad injury.
With wins vital, exciting finish could be in store, weather permitting
ECB Reporters Network17-Aug-2020Both captains indicated their readiness to set up a final-day run chase after just 8.5 overs were possible on the third day of the Bob Willis Trophy match between Leicestershire and Durham at the Fischer County Ground.Durham added 23 runs to their overnight score of 227 for 6, but lost the wicket of Paul Coughlin, caught at point by Sam Evans off the bowling of Gavin Griffiths.”There’s definitely a possibility of setting something up, it’s a short competition with wins vital, so it could make for exciting cricket on the last day – if we’re luckier with the weather,” said Leicestershire skipper Colin Ackerman.Opposite number Ned Eckersley agreed: “It’s going to take some positive discussions to find a target we’re both comfortable with – we’d probably want a few more than 250 – but both sides will want a positive outcome. We’ve all spent too much time not playing cricket this year, and every player and every member of the coaching staff on both sides will want an exciting last day. We don’t want to come and bat for bonus points.”
Hoping to make their return to the Premier League's top four next season to prove that the 2022/23 campaign was no blip, Newcastle United are now reportedly in pole position to land a key player in pursuit of their ambitions.
Newcastle transfer news
The Magpies have learned a harsh lesson in squad depth this season, with Eddie Howe's injury list often leaving him short on options as he attempts to navigate playing in four competitions. And that injury list is only set to continue into the next campaign, given that both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles suffered ACL injuries that will rule them out of the start of next season.

A “very important offer” has been made.

The transfer window should help solve Newcastle's problem in the form of Tosin Adarabioyo, however. Reports suggest that those at St James' Park are set to sign the Fulham defender on a free deal this summer upon the expiry of his current deal at Craven Cottage.
Bournemouth's Lloyd Kelly could then follow suit in a similar deal as a free agent this summer. But that will still leave Newcastle with a midfield problem that will prove to be a more expensive fix if reports are to be believed.
According to Football Transfers, Newcastle are leading the way to sign Amadou Onana this summer alongside Arsenal and Bayern Munich in a deal that could be worth over £50m in the coming months. This wouldn't be the first time that Newcastle and Everton have done business around that price range, having previously agreed a deal that saw Anthony Gordon head to St James' Park in a deal worth £45m.
That deal has since paid dividends for the Magpies, who have seen Gordon discover his best form in the current campaign. Now, they could see the same happen with Onana if they push on and beat Bayern Munich and Arsenal to the midfielder's signature.
"Exciting" Onana can replace Longstaff
If Newcastle want to push on and return to the Champions League places next season then players of Onana's potential will quickly prove to be the key, especially in place of the likes of Sean Longstaff. What's more, the return of Sandro Tonali will also hand Howe a major boost and perhaps even give Onana the perfect partner if he completes a move this summer.

The Belgian has received high praise during his time in England too, including from former Everton and Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, who told Sky Sports "Really exciting footballer. I know that sometimes when we speak about players, it’s very difficult to measure their potential. I think we are talking about a 20-year-old boy, who is probably one of the most talented at that age in European football, and that’s how excited we are in Belgium.
“He’s got the physicality and the presence of a player that the Everton fans know very well in Marouane Fellaini. He can become anything in that central area, so I can understand the excitement around Everton – this is one of the most exciting prospects in European football at this present time.”
Allrounder Cameron Green has been termed a “scary” talent by his Western Australia team-mate Ashton Agar.Green, 20, who has been likened to Andrew Flintoff, is tipped as an international star in the making if he can overcome the back problems which prevented him from bowling for much of the 2019-2020 season.Playing as a specialist batsman, he scored three Sheffield Shield hundreds – joining Doug Walters as the only players to have three Shield centuries and two five-wicket hauls before the age of 21 – including a stand-out match double with undefeated scores of 87 and 121 against Queensland.”Greeny is an incredible player and the scary thing is he didn’t even bowl last year,” Agar said. “For a young guy to come in and handle pressure situations as a standalone batter and make big hundreds and important contributions in big games showed mental ability well beyond his years in cricket. I can only see him getting better and better with the bat and then with the ball.”Alongside averaging 43.84 in his 15-match first-class career, Green has taken 28 wickets at 21.53 which included debut figures of 5 for 24 against Tasmania in 2017, figures he bettered against the same team in 2018 with 6 for 30 in a match haul of 9 for 42.Cameron Green drills one down the ground•Getty Images
“When he’s in full flight, Greeny can bowl over 140kph and swing the new-ball,” Agar said. “He’s two meters tall and to have someone like that in your team, who’s got raw pace and can play as a specialist batter or a specialist bowler, that’s some pretty scary talent.”So, it’s just about him getting his body right, keeping his mind strong for he’s going to be under some pressure when people start talking about him. People already are and he’s handling that really nicely so we’re very proud of him here [at WA] and I think he’s going to continue on a nice path.”Speaking in the first part of last season, shortly before the back injury was confirmed, Green played down the hype that had been building around him including when Ricky Ponting suggested he should be around the Test squad for experience.”I think it’s still way too early to be taking those comments pretty heavily,” he said. “I’ve only played a couple of games as a batsman in the WA squad. I haven’t really got those runs on the board, to be honest. I may have got a couple of good scores out of the way, but I’m definitely a good few years off I’d say.”Australia have long-searched for an allrounder to balance their Test side. Mitchell Marsh was recalled for the final Ashes Test last year and took 5 for 46 at The Oval before breaking his hand punching a dressing room wall in the early part of the summer which ruled him out of contention for the series against Pakistan and New Zealand. However, he returned to the ODI and T20I sides earlier this year and was awarded a CA central contract last momth.
