Villa Could Ditch £125k-p/w Shocker For 17 y/o "Star In The Making"

Unai Emery has overseen the impressive transformation of players such as Ollie Watkins, Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn during his time at Aston Villa.

However, the Spanish manager has not been able to get much-lamented winger Philippe Coutinho back to his best, and he must consider getting rid of the former Liverpool man this summer.

Fortunately, the Villans could have a ready-made replacement for the struggling star in 17-year-old academy talent, Omari Kellyman.

Should Aston Villa get rid of Coutinho?

When Steven Gerrard brought Coutinho to Villa Park last season on loan, it looked to be an inspired piece of business as he contributed an impressive four goals and three assists in his first eight appearances in the Premier League.

However, the Barcelona flop would quickly regress to the sort of form he showed on a regular basis with the Catalan club, managing just one goal and no assists in the final 11 outings, but Gerrard was still keen to bring him in permanently, and he was signed on a £125k-per-week contract.

That disappointing run has sadly continued in the 2022/23 campaign, with one goal and no assists in 20 top-flight appearances so far this campaign, which has seen him earn a shocking 6.37 average rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery watches on from the sideline as his side beat Newcastle United.

Considering this ranks him as the 18th-best performer in Emery's squad so far this season, it seems clear that he has to go in the summer, but Villa could find another attacking midfielder for the first squad by promoting teenage talent, Kellyman.

Who is Omari Kellyman?

Villa would sign Kellyman from Derby County's academy in early 2022, with the Rams' administration at the time allowing Premier League sides to swoop in for their best young talents.

The Northern Irishman, who can play anywhere across the attack, has certainly caught the eye with his performances in Villa's academy thus far, notching one goal and three assists for the U18 side, before being promoted to the U21 squad.

The step-up to Premier League 2 football certainly hasn't fazed the teenager, as he has three goals and two assists in just nine appearances at that level, with it no surprise that he was described as a "star in the making" by Birmingham Live reporter Ashley Preece.

Kellyman has already featured in first-team training under Emery at Bodymoor Heath, which suggests that it won't be long until he earns his senior debut for the Midlands outfit.

If he can live up to his exciting potential at Villa Park, there seems no reason why in time he can't replace the dwindling Coutinho in the first team at some stage.

Sky Sports Share "Significant" Man United Takeover News

Sheikh Jassim submitted a world-record bid of more than £5bn to take control at Manchester United on Friday evening, Sky Sports report.

When did Jassim make his final offer for Man United?

Jassim, who previously made two bids for the Red Devils, has always been confident of completing a takeover. It was previously believed that his third offer could be in the region of £4.5bn, but it seems as if it has broken the £5bn barrier.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol shared an update from Manchester United shortly after the deadline, confirming that Jassim’s bid was placed just before 10pm.

He said that a “significant” part of the bid is that Jassim still has finance available to improve Erik ten Hag’s squad as well as make changes to the infrastructure, with people close to Jassim “convinced” their offer is the best one.

“The bid went in very close to the deadline, just a few minutes before 10pm. It is a world-record bid, we believe it is worth just over £5bn.

“Also, what is significant is that Sheikh Jassim, as well as giving that money to the Glazers, is saying that part of his bid is that there is another big pot of finance available. That is to strengthen the squad, to improve the infrastructure, including the stadium and to invest in the local community.

“People close to Sheikh Jassim have been telling me today and also this evening, they are convinced this is the best bid for Manchester United.”

Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe?

As well as Jassim, Sir Jim Ratcliffe also placed a final bid at Old Trafford, with the two appearing to be the main frontrunners to take control from the Glazers.

The ball is now firmly in the court of the current owners, and there is expected to be a quiet few days in the process. According to Ben Jacobs, no decision will be made over the weekend, although there is confidence that things can move quite fast in May.

Ten Hag may well be hoping that is the case with the transfer window just around the corner, and with Jassim looking at signing players such as Neymar and Jude Bellingham, he could be hoping the Qatari group are successful.

VAR Makes Big Red Card Mistake In Celtic Match

Referee Nick Walsh and his VAR assistant Willie Collum may have made a huge mistake in the most recent Celtic game as they decided to send off Alex Cochrane.

What’s the latest on VAR and Celtic?

The Bhoys had the chance to seal the Scottish Premiership title on Sunday afternoon as they made the trip to Tynecastle Park to take on Hearts.

However, Ange Postecoglou and co were unable to accomplish much in the first half as they were held by their opponents pretty efficiently.

That was until shortly before the break when Daizen Maeda latched on to a ball over the top but was then tugged back by Cochrane.

As this footage shows on Sky Sports Scotland, the Celtic man had yet to bring the ball down and there were other Hearts players racing back, so there was no guarantee he would have been able to clearly get a shot away at goal.

This seemed to be the immediate opinion of Walsh who awarded a freekick and simply booked Cochrane but VAR quickly got involved.

Was it a fair red card for Cochrane against Celtic?

Seeing as VAR is only supposed to get involved when a referee has made a clear and obvious mistake, Collum had no reason to intervene and ask referee Walsh to upgrade it to a red card.

Despite that, VAR evidently felt as though Cochrane deserved the red as he was just about the last man – ignoring the fact that other Hearts players would have been on the scene, covering the situation in seconds.

When speaking on Sky Sports, co-commentator Andy Walker immediately condemned the decision, saying: “He is going to send him off and that is harsh.” He then added:

“This is a horrible use of VAR and the game has been ruined.”

While former Hearts midfielder Michael Stewart was even firmer with his judgement on the situation, telling BBC Sportsound: “That’s an utter nonsense as a red card, but nothing would surprise me.

“Did you see any Celtic players complaining? No. Everyone had a sense that a yellow card was the right decision.

“Utter garbage. What an absolute shambles.”

And even former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner agreed, also telling the BBC: “I don’t think it’s a red card, I’ll be honest. There’s no malice, there’s other players coming back.”

All in all, it’s fair to say VAR completely got this one wrong and Cochrane and his Hearts teammates will have every right to feel aggrieved.

Arsenal Could Sign £40m Partey Heir In "Future World Class" Gem

Arsenal's desperation to claim the Premier League title seems set for failure in this, their first real tangible attempt at it under Mikel Arteta.

It has been an admirable effort, but it takes more than that to claim the ultimate silverware when facing Pep Guardiola's rampant Manchester City.

Having won the league in four of the last five seasons, and seemingly set to add another from this campaign, Edu will have to work overtime this summer window to add the necessary quality to elevate the Gunners to that level.

Extra depth in certain positions is surely the first item of business after it arguably let them down during the crucial stages of their season, but following that it seems that the Brazilian has his sights set on a new midfield presence to battle with the ageing Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.

Whilst moves for Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice have been touted, there remains the suggestion that the Gunners could still move for Southampton's Romeo Lavia, who moves ever-closer to relegation with each passing game week – according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Should the Saints succumb to the drop, and the Cityzens refrain from exercising their reported £40m buy-back clause, it could mark a fine opportunity to sign a teenage sensation with all the makings of a mini-Partey.

How has Romeo Lavia played this season?

Enjoying what is his debut year in the Premier League, the 19-year-old midfielder has more than held his own against some top opponents. His 6.85 rating is indicative of this, which is a figure upheld by an impressive two tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game, via Sofascore.

However, what truly marks him out as a future star is his composure in possession, as the teenager is not overawed by the opportunity that has presented itself; he has instead stepped up. His 86% pass accuracy serves to prove this, alongside an impressive 1.13 successful take-ons per 90 too.

Although the Ghanaian general obviously occupies his position on a much grander scale, their shared key assets suggest that in time Lavia could seek to emulate the 29-year-old, who still boasts a few good years left at the top.

Should the Belgian sign this summer, it would give him ample time to grow under the wing of the £200k-per-week titan, thus taking his place seamlessly upon his eventual exit. After all, he was labelled as a "future world-class midfielder" by football podcaster and YouTuber Sharmarke 'Sharky' Mohamud.

This season has seen Partey imperious within Arteta's engine room, with his 7.11 rating maintained alongside an 88% pass accuracy and 2.2 tackles per game, via Sofascore.

It is clear that the similarities are there, and with Lavia likely to be happy as a backup for at least a few years, it could prove the perfect move to sign an apprentice who would already be knocking on the door of the master.

Celtic Eyeing Swoop To Sign £7m "Orchestrator" This Summer

An update has emerged on Celtic and their plans to bolster their squad heading into the summer transfer window…

What's the latest on Ardon Jashari to Celtic?

According to Swiss outlet Blick, the Hoops are one of two clubs, alongside Porto, leading the race to sign Luzern central midfielder Ardon Jashari in the coming weeks.

The report claims that the gem is poised to depart the Swiss top-flight club this summer and that a fee of up to €8m (£7m) could be required to secure his services.

Serie A sides Atalanta and Roma are said to have joined the race for the youngster's signature and Ange Postecoglou's side will, therefore, have stiff competition.

Who is Ardon Jashari?

The 20-year-old talent is a combative central midfielder who can also contribute with quality in the final third and he could come in as a big upgrade on current Celtic outcast James McCarthy.

Football Insider recently reported that the club are prepared to accept an offer for the Irishman this summer and that they have been trying to offload him since last year.

Ardon Jashari competing with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The midfielder is still under contract until 2025, on £20k-per-week, and the Hoops are hoping to get him off the wage bill ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

He has made 12 appearances in the Scottish Premiership since the start of last season and failed to average a Sofascore rating higher than 6.72.

Last term, the ex-Wigan ace made 1.3 tackles and interceptions and 0.1 key passes per game whilst completing 83% of his attempted passes in the top-flight.

Jashari, meanwhile, has played 30 times in the Swiss top-flight this season and averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.95.

The 20-year-old has also made 0.7 key passes and 2.4 tackles and interceptions per outing in the division whilst completing 82% of his passes, which shows that he has the potential to provide more quality in defensive and offensive actions.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig once hailed the gem as an "orchestrator" in midfield and journalist Pete O'Rourke has also described him as a talent with "big potential".

At the age of 20, the Switzerland-born maestro has time on his hands to continue to develop and fulfil his potential whilst already showcasing his quality on a regular basis in his home country before his 21st birthday.

Postecoglou could bring him in to add further depth to the Celtic squad as his statistics indicate that the youngster would offer far more than McCarthy at both ends of the pitch – with his defensive and offensive contributions.

The Hoops being willing to part ways with the Irish midfielder indicates that the Australian boss is not a huge fan of the dud and signing Jashari as his replacement could improve the depth and quality of his options in that position.

Leeds Eager To Keep Hold Of 21 y/o "Duracell Bunny"

Leeds United are determined to keep hold of Cody Drameh during the transfer window – although there is interest in his services from elsewhere, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

What's the latest on Drameh's future at Leeds?

The Whites are currently in a state of uncertainty with two games left in the Premier League. They are 18th in the standings and if they don't manage to drag themselves to safety, face at least a campaign back in the Championship. There are now only two games left for the side to keep hold of their top-flight status, starting this weekend at West Ham.

The Elland Road outfit have looked to a multitude of managerial options this season in a bid to try and steer them back in the right direction. They began the campaign with Jesse Marsch at the helm but with the club heading towards the drop, they decided to part ways with the boss. In came Michael Skubala for three games before Javi Gracia was given the job. He managed less than three months in the dugout and it is now the responsibility of Sam Allardyce to keep them in the Premier League.

If Leeds are relegated, though, it appears as if there could be a few players poached off them. One name in particular is Drameh, who is currently on loan at Luton. Having helped the Hatters to get into the Championship play-off final, reliable journalist Romano has reported that they would like to sign him permanently should they land that promotion.

They are also not the only team keen to snap up the defender, with several other sides also monitoring the situation it seems. Romano does add though that Leeds are "trying" to keep him at Elland Road if possible.

"Cody Drameh, into the play off final — Leeds trying hardest to keep him while Luton want to do everything to sign the RB hoping to play PL football. Championship, PL and European clubs all monitoring the situation closely. No decision has been taken."

You can see why Leeds want to keep him…

The defender has been impressive in the second tier with Luton, managing a superb WhoScored rating of 7.20 so far this season, including two assists and two Player of the Match awards along the way.

He's proven he can cut it in the Championship, managing a similarly solid rating of 6.89 during another second-tier stint with Cardiff, where former boss Steve Morison admitted that the defender is like a "Duracell Bunny" on the field, calling him "excellent".

Therefore, with Leeds potentially suffering relegation, you can see why the club would want to keep the impressive full-back, especially as they have failed to really settle on either Luke Ayling or Rasmus Kristensen as first choice throughout the current campaign.

£100k-p/w Everton Man Slammed Before Worrying Injury

Pundit Lee Hendrie has slammed Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he missed a number of big opportunities before picking up a potentially season-ending injury.

What's the latest on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Everton?

The Toffees travelled away from home to take on Wolves on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League knowing they really needed a positive result if they were to avoid relegation before the final day.

And Sean Dyche's men actually made quite a good start, putting the pressure on the home team as they began to "dominate" the ball in the early stages of the game at Molineux.

However, all that play in the opposition's half came back to bite them before too long as Wolves quickly countered from the edge of their own box thanks to a brilliant run from Adama Traore.

The winger drove up the field, past a number of defenders, and when his shot was saved by Jordan Pickford, Hwang Hee-chan was on hand to finish into an empty net.

Dyche must have been furious with his team for falling behind, especially after having some good opportunities themselves, and while speaking on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, Hendrie didn't hold back in his criticism of Calvert-Lewin in particular.

He said: "I wouldn't say Calvert-Lewin should have had a hat-trick but he's had three really good opportunities.

"He's got to do better with this one. It's about heading the ball down towards the corner. A really good opportunity for Everton."

And then to make things even worse, the forward then had to come off with an injury.

Hendrie noted: "This doesn't look good. He looks devastated. "What a loss he would be. That could be the end of his season."

How bad is Calvert-Lewin's injury?

In the end, it's safe to say the Englishman really failed to make the most of his 47-minute spell on the pitch as he missed one big chance and had three shots off target, before being subbed off having accumulated an expected goals (xG) ratio of 0.43 all by himself without scoring via Sofascore).

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

At least he was causing trouble, though, and it would have been a real concern for Dyche and co to see their £100k-per-week first-choice striker head straight down the tunnel after coming off, especially with only one game left to play now before the end of the campaign.

To make things worse, defender Nathan Patterson also was forced off with an injury before half-time, prompting journalist Joe Thomas to say that the first 45 minutes went "about as disastrous as it could have gone".

Yerry Mina may have spared the Toffees' blushes with a late equaliser, but the Merseysiders remain in trouble heading into the final weekend.

Terrific Star Could Join West Brom For Nothing

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan looks unlikely to be backed significantly by owner Guochuan Lai this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of returning to the Premier League.

The Chinese businessman controversially saw his £5m loan from the club written off a few months ago, with the vast majority of the Baggies' signings coming as free transfers in the 2022/23 campaign.

West Brom could find success down that route once again this summer, with reported target Jay Mingi seemingly set to depart Portsmouth on a free transfer.

Would Jay Mingi be a good signing for West Brom?

It was reported back in December by journalist Alan Nixon that the Baggies were scouting Mingi on a regular basis, with the view of bringing him in on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.

While Pompey have offered the 22-year-old a new contract, that has been on the table since January, and he is yet to sign on the dotted line, which suggests that he could be on his way out of Fratton Park when his current deal expires at the end of next month.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho said: "There was a conversation with Jay in January which went along the lines of 'I think you’re a terrific player with a load of potential.'

"I think there’s still a lot of work to do to get him there and fulfil that potential. There’s a huge amount to work on and I think he knows that as well, but this is a really good football club for him to do that."

Incidentally, the former West Ham midfielder didn't feature at all under Mousinho due to injury, with his last appearance for the club coming on New Year's Day, so it is perhaps a testament to the talent he possesses that he has been offered a new deal despite his lack of game time.

The Englishman possesses very little senior experience, with just 40 appearances to his name across spells with Maidenhead United, Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth.

However, he is clearly highly rated and could be a great signing for the future by Lai, especially if he continues to back his manager with free-agent signings.

Okay Yokuslu, John Swift and Jed Wallace are ranked as the first, second and fifth-best performers in West Brom's squad this season according to WhoScored, having joined without a transfer fee, emphasising how much success can be had with free agents.

If Lai wants to get the summer off to a positive start as West Brom chairman, he must surely consider making an offer to Mingi ahead of his contract's expiry next month. Such an appealing deal doesn't come around very often.

Kompany Can Seal Burnley’s Answer to Rodri with £26m ‘Artist’

Burnley will return to the Premier League in August with a completely different playing style, having been transformed in their first year under head coach Vincent Kompany.

Rather than grind it out in the top tier next season, it seems as though Kompany intends to double down by bringing in a high-profile name who is well-known for his passing ability.

That is according to Foot Mercato, who suggest Paris Saint-Germain central midfielder Fabian Ruiz is considered a priority target for the Clarets this summer.

What is the latest with Fabian Ruiz's PSG future?

Ruiz truly made a name for himself across four seasons with Napoli, where he racked up more than 160 appearances, prior to making a €21.5m (£18.5m) switch to PSG in August last year.

The Spain international has been used regularly this season, featuring 37 times in all competitions – 25 of those starts – as the Parisians reclaimed their Ligue 1 crown but fell disappointingly short of success in the Coupe de France and Champions League.

On the back of what was ultimately a poor campaign for PSG, it has been reported that a number of players will be moved on this summer, with Ruiz one of those that is most at risk of being sold, with Burnley reportedly lurking amid a surprise switch.

Ruiz will unlikely struggle for suitors if he is indeed no longer wanted in the French capital, with former Barcelona boss Quique Setien summing it up nicely when describing the Spaniard – who he worked with at Real Betis – as a "spectacular" player who is "tremendously humble".

Can Fabian Ruiz succeed in the Premier League?

Burnley supporters will be hoping that Ruiz is humble enough to take what has to be considered a backward step in his career by swapping the Parc des Princes for Turf Moor.

After all, this is a player previously described as a "football artist" by talent scout Jacek Kulig after the 27-year-old starred for Napoli against Atalanta in October 2019.

For those unaware of Ruiz's playing style, FBref lists Manchester City's Rodri as sixth on the list of players most similar to the former Betis midfielder.

Ruiz's 98 passes completed per game on average, with a completion percentage of 91.3, ranks him in the top 2% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues this season in both metrics.

Rodri Manchester City

Rodri, for comparison, has an identical pass completion percentage, while they also have an identical expected goals (xG) return of 0.13 per game, only highlighting further the similarities in their all-around games and positioning.

Four years into his Premier League career, it is fair to say Rodri has been a huge hit in English football. While Burnley may not have the riches of City, in Kompany they have a Pep Guardiola protégée and a manager who clearly knows exactly what he wants from his side.

It will likely take a club-record fee of around €30m (£26m) to land the silky midfielder, as per Football Observatory, but Ruiz may well be the difference-maker for a new-look Burnley if they are to make a successful leap from the Championship to the Premier League.

Liverpool’s "Mad" £38m Target To "Decide" On Anfield Move

Liverpool target and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is expected to soon "decide" whether to make the move to Anfield, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Is Mason Mount leaving Chelsea?

The Blues academy graduate has made 195 senior appearances for Mauricio Pochettino's side over the course of his career, but with his contract set to expire at the end of next season, the upcoming window is his final chance to secure a big-money move elsewhere having rejected several new offers to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports have credited the Reds with an interest in the 24-year-old but report that Premier League rivals Manchester United are the current frontrunners having displayed a strong desire to secure his services, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein further revealing that the player himself is leaning towards a switch to Old Trafford.

Writing in his column for CaughtOffside, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs claimed that the England international is “advancing” in negotiations to join Erik Ten Hag’s side which is true considering that he’s since agreed personal terms, but whilst a deal looks all but done, he still has Jurgen Klopp lurking in the background as a valid option.

Are Liverpool signing Mount?

Taking to Twitter, Plettenberg revealed that Mount is set to choose between Liverpool and Man United as his next destination with an exit from his boyhood club pretty much inevitable this summer. He wrote:

"News #Mount: Been told #MUFC is pushing a lot! Ten Hag and the bosses share the same opinion about him: They definitely want him! Within the club all are convinced of him. Understand he will decide between Man Utd or Liverpool. Price valuation at this stage: €45-50m [£38m-43m] with bonuses included."

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

Should FSG cash out on Mount?

Liverpool are clearly long-term admirers of Mount and the fact that he’ll be out of contract this time next year means that a cut-price deal is available with the price range mentioned above, so FSG should certainly consider tabling a bid in an attempt to wrap up this bargain of a deal.

Chelsea’s “mad” attacking midfielder, as lauded by BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand, missed 12 top-flight games last season through injury but still managed to clock up nine goal contributions (six assists and three goals) across all competitions, showing how much of an instant impact he can make when available to play.

The Champions League winner, who knows what it takes to compete and be successful at the highest level having secured three senior trophies in SW6, is also a versatile operator having been fielded in seven various positions across the pitch since first emerging onto the scene, including in the midfield and the frontline, so he is a well-rounded player that would slot perfectly into the centre for Klopp.
