Man Utd fans can’t believe they missed out on Mauro Icardi this summer

For all of Manchester United’s goal-scoring troubles this season – they have scored just ten times in the Premier League – things could have been oh-so-different had the summer turned out a different way.

Inter’s pursuit of Romelu Lukaku was long and protracted, and it appeared at one stage that their Italian rivals Juventus were about to pounce. In the end, the Nerazzurri got their man, but United could very well have profited with more than just the money they received for the Belgium international.

Reports had claimed Antonio Conte’s side were willing to give up Mauro Icardi as part of the deal to sign the 26-year-old, but it was then suggested the Red Devils had no interest in such a proposition.

Icardi eventually joined French giants PSG later in the summer, and has enjoyed a fine start to life in Paris, scoring twice in the win over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.

After seeing the Argentine’s display, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the man that was linked to them.

Many Red Devils supporters insisted they should have done everything in their power to sign the 5 foot 11 star, with one fan in particular blaming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for not making it happen.

West Ham fans dispute Declan Rice’s post-Sheffield United claim

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday, West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice insisted that his team are currently creating enough chances but are struggling to find the back of the net.

However, Rice’s words have been disputed by a number of the London club’s fans, who believe that their side are not creating anywhere near enough opportunities.

West Ham had 12 shots against the Blades on Saturday, four of which were on target – including Robert Snodgrass’ goal in the first period.

On another afternoon, Manuel Pellegrini’s side might well have collected all three points, but Sheffield United have shown in the early stages of the 2019/20 campaign that they are a team to be taken seriously – collecting an impressive 13 points to sit eighth in the Premier League table.

Rice thinks that the Hammers created enough to win Saturday’s contest at the London Stadium but the fans are just not buying it.

Leeds may have a saving grace when it comes to Ben White

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Leeds United have every reason to be worried after reports emerged stating that one of their most important players could be on his way out of the club in January.

The Whites are currently third in the Championship, but their fortunes could change if this reported move comes to fruition.

What’s the story then?

Football Insider are reporting that Brighton may be planning on recalling Ben White in January.

The report suggests that the Seagulls have a clause in the loan deal that would allow them to bring him back once the transfer window reopens.

They also claim that the Whites remain confident they can hold onto him and that may be down to the one saving grace they have over any potential decision Brighton do decide to make.

Leeds’ saving grace

Indeed, Leeds may be able to keep hold of White until the end of the season due to the abundance of centre-backs that Brighton have at their disposal.

Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy are now both experienced Premier League head, while Adam Webster and Dan Burn have both taken to their new surroundings like a duck to water.

Burn has already won a Man of the Match award and averaged a 6.98 rating on WhoScored, while Webster is proving to be a brilliant ball-player with a pass success rate above 86 per cent and 0.6 key passes per game.

Why being the away goalkeeper at Leeds is the toughest job in football in the video below…

Bearing that in mind, White simply wouldn’t be guaranteed first-team minutes at the Amex if he returned to the south coast, and the Seagulls may judge that the best thing for his development would be for him to stay in Yorkshire for the remainder of the season.

Arsenal decided that Leeds is the best place for Eddie Nketiah to prepare for life in the Premier League, and there’s no reason why Brighton can’t make the same assessment when deciding on what they want for the centre-back.

He’s been named as the Player of the Season so far by a number of United supporters, and he’s clearly developing well under Marcelo Bielsa.

Taking all of this into account alongside the number of centre-backs that Brighton already have at their disposal it’s fair to say that Leeds may be safe from losing their key man this January.

Manchester United: Fans react to Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal for the club

Manchester United fans have been looking back at Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal for the club as Friday marked the anniversary.

The Old Trafford faithful were in need of a goal and were 1-0 down at home to Portsmouth in the Premier League.

The Portuguese forward, as an 18-year-old, used the occasion to open his account for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

The Scottish manager completed the deal for the teenager for a fee of just £12.24m from Sporting Lisbon and he was presented with the No. 7 shirt, formerly worn by David Beckham who moved to Real Madrid shortly before the deal.

Ferguson described Ronaldo as one of the most exciting young players he’d ever seen at the time and his instinct was not wrong.

He went on to score 118 goals in 292 appearances for Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid for £80m in 2009.

Supporters collectively rejoiced as they saw footage of Ronaldo’s first goal for the club and showed their appreciation on social media.

Here you will find some of the best responses from Manchester United fans:

Man City star Raheem Sterling has become a model professional on and off the pitch

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling has been named on a list of Britain’s most influential black footballers. The annual Football Black List recognises the efforts of black players for their help in various areas on and off the pitch.

Sterling is joined by the likes of Sadio Mane, Danny Rose and Eniola Aluko for their positive impacts. The co-founder of the Football Black List Leon Mann said: “Raheem has made such a huge impact in the last year, on and off the pitch.

“His vital words and actions in confronting issues of racism and how the black community is treated cannot be downplayed.”

Sterling has long been a media target for defamatory stories, but the manner in which he has approached the subject has been nothing short of unbelievable.

It was not long ago that he posted a profound message on Instagram targeting the media agenda against black athletes, which has sparked a nationwide change ever since.

Sterling put forth examples of how black footballers received different treatment from newspapers compared to that of white players. His words have stimulated a marked shift in attitudes throughout the British media, with Sky Sports dedicating plenty more coverage towards the topic thereafter.

Ever since his Instagram post, Sterling has been subject to more racist abuse in Bulgaria with England.

His incredible willpower to ignore such awful chanting was something that should one day put him in the New Year Honours list. Sterling would also hit out at Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci after his comments on Moise Kean, saying “all you can do is laugh now”.

There is absolutely no doubt that Sterling is a role model on and off the pitch, and no matter who you support, it is an absolute delight to see him ranked as one of the world’s best right now.

Plus, his impact off the pitch is truly remarkable in the midst of such rancid abuse.

He is a true national treasure and fully deserves his recognition.

Southampton fans lavish praise on former midfielder Nick Holmes

A number of Southampton fans have taken to social media to lavish praise on Nick Holmes, who turned out for the club between 1972 and 1987.

Holmes was part of the Saints side that won the 1976 FA Cup, whilst he made close to 450 league appearances during his time with the club.

The former midfielder turned 65 on Monday, and expected, Southampton’s official Twitter account was on hand with a special birthday message.

And the post led to a number of Saints supporters reminiscing over the Englishman’s time at St Mary’s.

Some have even hinted that they wish characters like Holmes were still in the first team now as the club continue to struggle to pick up results, asking if he’s available for Saturday and praising his pride when wearing the shirt.

Indeed, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are currently on a run of four straight defeats in all competitions, whilst they have not won a game since the end of September.

Liverpool man Trent Alexander-Arnold’s inefficiency vs Kosovo a worrying trend

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

England ended their Euro 2020 campaign in style on Sunday as they beat Kosovo 4-0.

In a match that made more headlines for its historical significance rather than its importance from a footballing point of view, the Three Lions won 4-0. Harry Winks, Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane and Mason Mount grabbed the goals.

There were some worries for Gareth Southgate though. The Balkan nation managed just three shots on target, but that does not mean they did not threaten Nick Pope’s goal regularly. If England want to challenge at next year’s tournament, there are improvements to make.

One disappointing performance came from Trent Alexander-Arnold. The nine-cap Liverpool right-back is regarded as a creative force, contributing 16 assists in all competitions for the Reds last year, but the match in Pristina was not his finest hour.

Watch Liverpool Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

For example, his SofaScore rating of 6.8 was the second-worst amongst any England starter – interestingly, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, his teammate on Merseyside, came out worst with 6.7.

Managing 56% possession, you would have expected the 21-year-old to play a big part in the offensive play – after all, he does have an average of 3.5 chances created per match for his club in the Premier League – but he couldn’t even manage one here.

It was the Reds man’s inefficiency that was the most disappointing though. He won neither of the two duels he contested, whilst he also failed to beat his man on the single occasion he attempted to do so. Not only that, but he lost the ball 14 times, which was the most of any of his teammates and the second-most in the whole fixture, behind Milot Rashica.

This is becoming something of a trend for Alexander-Arnold. In the last four matches for either club or country, he has lost possession of the ball the most times on his side – 14 here against Kosovo, 22 against Montenegro, 28 against Manchester City and 32 against Genk. This shows a worrying carelessness that both Jurgen Klopp and Southgate need to consider.

Is the right-back starting to believe his own hype? Perhaps. There has been a lot of talk about how much the youngster is impressing. He has been compared to Belgium star Kevin de Bruyne, whilst there have been calls for him to appear in central midfield.

Before even considering that he needs to iron out these mistakes in his game. Does he have talent? Absolutely. Does he have a lot to learn? Undoubtedly. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and encourage him to believe he is already the finished article.

Leeds fans believe they’re about to repeat one costly error

Leeds United fans on Twitter believe that the club are about to make the same costly error that affected the club’s chances of promotion last season.

Indeed, a number of Whites supporters blamed a lack of action in the January transfer window last term for their failure to clinch promotion, and Victor Orta has now stated that Leeds will be having a quiet window once 2020 rolls around.

This has infuriated a number of fans as the club are seemingly just a few additions away from absolutely dominating this division.

Indeed, the Yorkshire outfit top the xG league table by quite some way, but their troubles in front of goal mean that they currently sit third in the Championship.

Whether or not Leeds actually do anything in the January transfer window remains to be seen, but Orta’s quotes suggest they won’t, and fans are far from happy.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on social media…

Leeds’ Stuart Dallas impresses fans while playing out of position at left-back

Leeds United kept the heat on the Championship leaders with a victory over Luton Town on Saturday afternoon, but it was no easy feat.

Marcelo Bielsa needed a 90th-minute own goal from Matty Pearson to ensure all three points returned with them back to Yorkshire.

The Whites are now unbeaten in six matches and overtook Preston North End to move into second spot, two points behind West Bromwich Albion.

Patrick Bamford opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the season before James Collins headed home an Izzy Brown cross just a few minutes later to tie things up.

The 26-year-old then got the final touch before the ball was turned into the net for the late winner – he’s since been trying to claim it for himself.

Leeds have often been faced with injuries this season and this game was no different, as such, Bielsa named central midfielder Stuart Dallas at left-back and fans were rather impressed with his performance.

One supporter claimed only Ben White could beat him for a potential Player of the Season award with another labelling him as a ‘real diamond.’

He also drew comparisons to Roberto Carlos and Cafu while a further fan believed he was ‘absolutely class.’

Liverpool fans love the expansion plans for Anfield

It is going swimmingly on the pitch for Liverpool at the moment.

The Reds are currently top of the Premier League table by eight points from Leicester City, having won 12 out of their first 13 games this season in the top flight, and they are also the reigning European champions. There has not been a better time to be a Liverpool fans since 1990.

Given the club’s success, it seems the club’s owners want to take advantage.

On Friday, plans for the expansion of Anfield were revealed, which will now take the stadium’s capacity to 61,000. That will be an increase of over roughly 7,000 seats, and it will see them edge closer to the size of Old Trafford, home of arch-rivals Manchester United.

Unsurprisingly, the supporters love the new plans, with many excited to see what the atmosphere will be like once the work is eventually finished.

The Merseyside outfit’s fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.
