Of course, the Spaniard is amongst the best stoppers in the world, but his form last season wasn’t up to his usual standards, and there have been rumours that he could leave.

It’s no secret that Henderson wants to be a part of the squad at Old Trafford after saying last week that he would give his right leg to play for the Red Devils.

Tottenham Hotspur fans have expressed their love for former captain Michael Dawson after a Twitter account named Spurs Nostalgia reminded fans of one of his most iconic quotes.

The central defender, who is still playing at Nottingham Forest, was a key member of Spurs’ squad between 2005 and 2014.

And, ahead of the final game at White Hart Lane, in which Spurs beat Manchester United 2-1, Dawson said: “White Hart Lane is a special place and Spurs is a club I will love for as long as I live.”

And Spurs fans have been quick to gush over the 35-year-old, who was one of the club’s longest-serving stars.

Dawson, a long-term captain of the side, made a total of 324 appearances in north London, winning the League Cup in 2008 and helping the side into the Champions League under Harry Redknapp, as they reached the quarter-finals.

Regularly partnered with Ledley King at centre-back, Dawson also won four caps for England.

And supporters believe that he is a legend in north London, having never wavered in his commitment to Tottenham.

Manchester City have spent the last decade or so building a massive profile for themselves on the world football stage.

Despite no Champions League trophy nestling in the cabinet at the Etihad as yet, the blue half of Manchester have become the dominant force in the Premier League, usurping rivals United along the way.

The Citizens have some of the finest players in world football, but there has always been a nagging doubt in the mind of many who follow City that they might not quite be at the level of some of the world’s biggest clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in terms of status.

However, this weekend’s update (per the Sun) that winger Leroy Sane is set to snub Bayern and remain with City could have more significance than meets the eye.

Sane, a German international, will have spent much of his youth admiring the likes of Bayern, with it no doubt a dream for most German boys growing up to play at the Allianz Arena.

This then makes Sane’s decision to stay put in Manchester all the more important, with it sending out a message to clubs like Bayern that City are now right there in the mix with the biggest clubs.

Sane has been superb at times for Pep Guardiola’s men, but his inconsistencies have often threatened to derail his progress at the club. However, it’s clear for everyone to see that he is one of the top young talents in the European game, and someone who most of the giants of the game would love to have on their books.

Indeed, the stats back up just how good Sane can be, with the German notching ten goals and providing an equal number of assists last term, despite only starting 21 Premier League games.

With City looking for world dominance on the football scene, this might well prove a big turning point for the club in the long run.

Rangers are interested in signing former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel this summer, according to The Daily Record.

What’s the story?

The paper report that it’ll be the third time that the Ibrox club have tried to sign Steven Gerrard’s former teammate at Liverpool, having been put off by the player’s £5m price tag last summer and the player unwilling to take a wage cut back in January.

However, the Rangers boss is now said to have held “positive preliminary talks” with the Slovakian international after the expiration of his £60k-a-week contract with Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The report states that with the player looking for a new club, there is a willingness to move to Scotland.

Do Rangers need him?

A player of Skrtel’s quality and experience would certainly make him a strong addition to the Rangers squad and the club do need a fourth central player to add the necessary depth to the defensive line.

Connor Goldson is the first-choice pick in the position with Nikola Katic and new signing George Edmundson also competing for places.

The latter two though are still young at 22 and 21 respectively and it’s obviously a position that benefits greatly from experience at the top level playing against the best attackers.

Skrtel certainly has that in his past having made 242 Premier League appearances before his move to the Turkish giants.

Also winning 104 caps for his country and competing in UEFA club competitions a massive 87 times, he not only has the pedigree to be a success in the Scottish Premiership but can also be a reliable presence for the club on the European scene.

Adding a player with his history, who is known and respected by Gerrard, to a squad who are mostly inexperienced on the European stage could go a long way to making the Rangers defence more solid next term.

Victor Orta’s links to Spain have seemingly helped the Yorkshire club bring in some promising talent from their director of football’s home country.

One place where Orta seems to like shopping is Camp Nou as he has signed multiple Barcelona youngsters in recent years.

La Blaugrana have an incredible track record of producing some of the world’s best talents such as Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, and the Yorkshire club have been looking to poach some of these players while they’re still developing.

Could strike gold

It’s easy to think that United are just signing up Barca’s rejects and cast-offs that the club don’t see any value in, and while that may be true it doesn’t mean that they won’t one day turn into great players.

For all of the future stars to have played in the famous La Masia academy, many of them actually made their names elsewhere.

Just in England, we have seen Pepe Reina, Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin and Gerard Pique act as examples of players who left Barcelona at a young age only to go on to become top-class talents.

Of course, Barca do keep some of their best talents such as Messi and Iniesta, but they seem to be poor judges of potential at times having let the aforementioned players leave at such a young age.

If Leeds carry on with this policy of signing youngsters from the Barca academy they could very easily strike gold, as there are clearly future stars to be poached from La Masia.
