Jos Luhukay may be a distant memory to Sheffield Wednesday but despite his failings at the club earlier in the campaign, one key decision he made last summer could determine whether the Owls gain promotion.

The club are sitting outside the play-offs at the moment so four monumental games to come against Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Norwich are make or break.

With that in mind, one man will be vital; Michael Hector.

Luhukay’s decision to bring him to the club on loan from Chelsea was one of the best he made during his tenure at the club and he is now proving vital under his successor, Steve Bruce.

The club have witnessed a remarkable turn in fortunes under new management with the Yorkshire side embarking on a run of 11 games without defeat, meaning Bruce is unbeaten since he took charge.

Hector has been vital in that and with the club about to play a succession of crucial games he can’t afford to take his foot off the gas.

At Wednesday, it finally looks as though the versatile 26-year-old has found a home. It’s his 15th loan spell away from his two permanent clubs in Reading and Chelsea, but with the appraisal he’s earned in Yorkshire he may finally find a settled place to play his football.

Hector has a no-nonsense nature, summed up by the number of clearances he makes and considering the period Wednesday face, they’ll need someone like him to be at his best.

On Saturday afternoon he’ll come up against another Chelsea loanee in Tammy Abraham. Their battle will be the difference between who comes away the happier of the two teams. The Villa striker has won 2.9% aerial duels per game this season. Hector in comparison has won more but it’s an area that will be intriguing to watch when they come up against each other.

The Jamaican international is also a good reader of the game and against a formidable midfield containing the creative outlets of Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Conor Hourihane, he will be key.

Wednesday are currently four points off the play-offs and under Luhukay, finishing in that part of the table wouldn’t have felt possible. However, one decision he’s made will prove vital to whether their turnaround under Bruce can be completed.

وقال بن تشيلويل، في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “بي بي سي” العالمية: “الشيء المهم هو الشباك النظيفة، كنا نعلم أن الناس سينظرون إلينا بعد تلقي شباكنا ثلاثة أهداف المباراة الماضية (أمام ساوثهامبتون في الدوري الإنجليزي)، لقد كنا نتسم بالصلابة الدفاعية ضد فريق جيد ولم نمنحهم الكثير من الفرص”.

وأضاف: “بشكل عام كفريق لن أقول أننا كنا نلعب بشكل مريح لأننا كنا تحت ضغط في بعض الأحيان، لكننا كنا منظمين كفريق واحد، أعتقد أننا كنا جيدين جدًا من الناحية الدفاعية”.

وواصل: “نحن فريق كبير وعندما تلعب لـ تشيلسي تتوقع شباك نظيفة، وإذا استقبلت الأهداف فستتلقى الانتقادات، لقد عملنا بجد في الملعب وأظهرنا أننا فريق قوي دفاعيًا”.

واستكمل: “كان من المخيب للآمال عدم وجود مشجعين، ولكن كفريق كان الدافع موجودًا بغض النظر عن ذلك، خاصة بالنسبة لأشخاص جدد مثلي”.

Joey Barton is never shy in causing controversy, with his self-styled philosophical ramblings and regular comments on topical issues both inside and outside football.

And this week has seen him make a brash claim that he would already have Sunderland secured as a Championship side, if he had been in charge of the Black Cats.

His comments, when speaking to the Fleetwood Weekly News, have a hint of jealousy and a tinge of sour grapes, but he also claims that his Fleetwood side, despite falling short this season, will mount a promotion charge next season.

He said: “We have not been able to recruit everybody we would want in the building. But we have a chance to shuffle the pack on that in the summer.

“We have some really key components already here with us. I think that is what has emerged this season whether or not we are successful and get promoted.

“That is for a select few. There are only so many that can do that.

“It is two (up) automatic and one by the play-offs. Everyone judges those sides as being successful but, let’s be honest, if I had Sunderland’s budget I’d have them up by this point.”

It’s a bold claim, and one that many Sunderland fans will simply laugh at.

He took a job at Fleetwood, and must have known the type of budget and restrictions he would have, compared to a bigger club.

Jack Ross has done a fantastic job at Sunderland, and the irony of Barton’s comments, is that, before the club was bought by Stewart Donald, Fleetwood were probably in a better financial position than the Wearside club.

If he does not like working with the finances he has at his disposal, he could just leave, or prove himself enough that a bigger club comes calling for him.

If the latter were to happen, I am not sure you would hear him complaining about having the opportunity to build a better squad then.

Maybe Barton should focus more on his own job at hand, and less on what the others are doing.

I am sure the Sunderland fans are only interested in Barton and Fleetwood on two occasions this season — the next of which will be during the penultimate game at Highbury, when it would be a perfect fitting, if the Black Cats secured automatic promotion in front of his envious eyes.

وجاء نص بيان برشلونة كالتالي:

– عُقد اجتماع ظهر اليوم بين نادي برشلونة والحكومة، لمناقشة مواعيد إجراء التصويت بحجب الثقة عن التقدم داخل الكيان الرياضي، خلال الاجتماع ، نقلت الحكومة إلى النادي أنها اليوم لا تتوقع أي عائق قانوني أو صحي بحيث لا يمكن إجراء التصويت بسحب الثقة بأمان في المواعيد المحددة، بشرط التوافق مع توصيات البروتوكولات.

– برشلونة يرى أنه يجب توفر 15 يومًا على الأقل للتحضير لحجب الثقة، ولهذا طُلب من الحكومة الإذن بإجراء تصويت بحجب الثقة في 15 و16 نوفمبر، والحكومة ستدرس الطلب وسترد خلال الأيام القادمة.

– وحضر الاجتماع نيابة عن الحكومة، ميريتسيل ماسو الأمينة العامة لرئاسة الجمهورية، وأمين عام وزارة الداخلية، والأمين العام لوزارة الصحة والأمين العام لمجلس الرياضة، والنائب الأول لـ رئيس برشلونة.

Leeds fans have been hoping that Marcelo Bielsa will stay at the club next season after his brother provided an update on his contract status.

The Argentine joined Leeds in 2018 and Bielsa’s brother Rafael revealed some details over his contract situation at Elland Road.

Rafael said Leeds have the option to keep Bielsa if they are not promoted, but if they are, he is contractually obliged to stay for their first season back in the Premier League.

It is likely that Leeds will take up their option to keep the Argentine after he has worked wonders at Elland Road but there is always the worry that he will walk away if the club isn’t promoted.

Bielsa has a history of leaving clubs early having never managed a side any longer than two years, resigning multiple times throughout his career.

الأهلي تأهل إلي نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا بعد الفوز على الوداد بنتيجة 5-1 بمجموع مباراتي الذهاب والإياب بدور نصف النهائي للبطولة القارية.

ويعاني علي معلول من إصابة حرمته من خوض مواجهة الإياب أمام الوداد التي أقيمت أمس، أما أحمد فتحي ينتهي عقده مع الأهلي بنهاية الدوري المصري ومباراة الأحمر أمام طلائع الجيش السبت المقبل.

وقال عبد الحفيظ خلال تصريحات عبر إذاعة “الشباب والرياضة”: “معلول مصاب بإجهاد في العضلة الخلفية، والمدرب قرر عدم المجازفة به في مباراة اليوم، وهي إصابة ليست قوية، وسيكون جاهزًا للمباريات المقبلة”.

وبسؤاله.. هل تأجيل مباراة الزمالك والرجاء لها أثر سلبي او ايجابي على الأهلي ؟ أوضح: “ليس لها علاقة، من أول عودتنا من المغرب ومحضرين برنامج المباراة”.

وأردف: “من أول يوم لموسيماني في الأهلي لم يأخذ وقت، أول اجتماع اختصر الموضوع بالنسبة لي وللجهاز، وكان يعرف أسماء اللاعبين ومراكزهم ومميزاتهم، نتحدث عن مدرب كأنه مصري وعلى دارية كاملة باللاعبين وهذا سهل أمور كثيرة جدًا”.

وعن أحمد فتحي، قال: “حتى الآن لا يوجد حل، وسنرى الأمور في اليومين المقبلين وهنبدأ نسأل”.

ذكرت تقارير صحفية إنجليزية أن نادي مانشستر يونايتد يريد التعاقد مع أحد لاعبي أياكس أمستردام الهولندي في الصيف القادم.

اليونايتد قد يرحل عن صفوفه النجم الفرنسي بول بوجبا في الصيف القادم، حيث ينتهي عقده في 30 يونيو 2021.

وبحسب صحيفة “ميرور” البريطانية، فإن مانشستر يونايتد يدرس إمكانية التعاقد مع اللاعب الهولندي الشاب ريان جرافنبرخ متوسط ميدان أياكس.

Victor Wanyama has had a difficult 2018-19 campaign at Tottenham Hotspur.

Indeed, injuries have restricted the midfielder to just 15 appearances in all competitions, but he was named in the starting XI against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Spurs are not exactly flooded with central midfielders at the moment and Wanyama benefited from Harry Winks’ absence to start.

The 27-year-old – a 2016 arrival from Southampton – could not prevent his side from suffering a 4-3 defeat on the night, but the away-goals rule sent Tottenham into the semi-finals of the Champions League.

There were times when Wanyama conceded possession, which is to be expected due to the amount of time that he has spent on the sidelines.

However, the Kenyan did a lot of good things at the Etihad Stadium and it would be fair to say that the Spurs fans were pleased with his performance against Pep Guardiola’s side.

One-time Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez played the final seven minutes of Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s men on Wednesday night, and Cityzens fans were quick to react to his cameo display.

The Premier League holders actually agreed a £60m (£55m plus £5m in add-ons) deal with Arsenal for the Chile international in August 2017, but a deal fell through as the Gunners were unable to bring in a replacement in time.

Since moving to Old Trafford in January 2018, the 30-year-old has struggled to make an impact for the Red Devils and is barely named in the starting XI.

Man City supporters obviously feel they have had the last laugh given their success with the South American forward since, if their reactions to his outing on Wednesday is anything to go by.

While one said “boy did we dodge a couple of bullets not buying Fred and Sanchez”, another sarcastically said “great to see Sanchez show us City fans what we missed out on”.
