Everton fans slam "awful" Michael Keane following Atalanta humiliation

It just gets worse and worse…

In arguably one of the most shambolic performances by any English club in Europe, Everton were thoroughly outplayed by Atalanta at Goodison Park eventually losing 5-1 in their Europa League tie.

There were simply too many horrific performances to mention by a club who seem to be in genuine danger of capitulating in every competition this season.

While there were one or two young players bought into the team on Thursday evening, the field was still packed with “talent”, including five of Everton’s summer signings, who cost nearly £100million between them.

One of these signings had a night to forget on Merseyside. Michael Keane, who is valued at £16.2million by Transfermarkt, put in arguably the worst performance of his promising career and cost Everton numerous times with his atrocious, lacklustre defending.

There is one thing that Michael Keane should not do tonight when reflecting on the game and that is look on Twitter, where Everton fans quite rightly tore the England man to shreds for his display…

Everton fans react as Paulo Fonseca leads Shakhtar to Champions League last 16

Rejected Everton managerial target Paulo Fonseca led Shakhtar Donetsk to the last 16 of the Champions League as they beat Manchester City 2-1 at home on Wednesday night, and Toffees fans were quick to have their say on the news.

In a group alongside City and Serie A high-flyers Napoli, the Ukrainian outfit weren’t given a hope of reaching the knockout stages of the competition, and Fonseca even went as far as saying he would dress up as Zorro for a press conference if they did.

That is exactly what happened on Wednesday, and the achievement may come as a blow to the Merseyside outfit, who according to Daily Telegraph writer Matt Law on Twitter turned down the opportunity to interview the 44-year-old before they appointed Sam Allardyce.

Everton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on Fonseca, and while one said the club “missed a trick there”, another believes they “might still get him in the summer”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

In Focus: £20m January budget unlikely to be enough to save Newcastle

According to reports in The Mirror, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is ready to demand a January transfer budget of £20m in order to help get the team club out of the current slump they are in.

What’s the word, then?

Well, despite making a decent start to the season the Magpies have taken just one point from the last 18 available in the Premier League to leave them just three places and five points above the relegation zone.

The Mirror says that Benitez is unsettled by the poor run of form and he reckons he will need £20m in the New Year to buy a new striker, No 10 and left-back having been given £70m to spend before the previous summer transfer window for then, January and next summer.

However, The Mirror says that a proposed takeover is stopping Benitez committing to deals just yet as he could perhaps have a bigger budget to work with, although wages are still an issue.

How much trouble are Newcastle in?

While they were impressive earlier on in the campaign, they have hit a real low point right now.

The defeats away against Manchester United and Chelsea were understandable, but home defeats without scoring against Watford and Bournemouth were particularly disappointing, while they were also beaten 1-0 against Burnley at Turf Moor.

14 goals in 15 Premier League matches this season points to where one of their main problems is, and with Joselu and Dwight Gayle struggling for goals and Aleksandar Mitrovic out of favour it seems a need for a striker is especially paramount.

Would £20m really be enough?

In this day and age and if Newcastle are looking for players with real quality than can make a difference, you would think not.

While Benitez could choose to sell someone like Mitrovic to raise funds, if he doesn’t and just has £20m to spend then it would be difficult to see him get a good quality striker, No 10 and left-back on permanent deals.

The Spaniard may well be relying on loans in that case, and those would do little to ease the worries of Newcastle fans who will certainly be concerned about relegation based on recent results.

Handing £22.5m-rated man another crack of the whip in England would be smart from Everton

The Everton fans in and around the Transfer Tavern are optimistic about their future under Marco Silva, hoping he can be the man to make their European dreams come true again.

The Toffees are still happy with new manager Marco Silva despite not much transfer activity happening apart from the managerial appointment. Our punters are insistent on Everton spending between now and the end of the transfer window, specifically on creative midfielder Joao Mario, who is valued at £22.5 million on Transfermarkt.

Last season, the Portuguese midfielder spent 6 months playing on-loan for West Ham from Italian giants Inter Milan. This move didn’t seem to work at first alike many other foreign players who come to the Premier League, the adaptation is too hard for them to do. However, in the last few matches of the season, Mario was one of West Ham’s top performers in the middle of the park as well as on the wing.

The 25-year-old scored 2 goals and created one in his 13 Premier League appearances, something that could be improved if given another chance in England by Everton. Their huge summer spend last season didn’t work out but recruiting the Portuguese international would be a positive move and one which could fill Goodison Park with hope again for the new season coming up.

With the ability to play anywhere in midfield, Marco Silva could utilise Joao Mario in whatever way he deems fit, knowing that he will be a solid performer for the team.

Bruno Alves deal could pave way for Rangers to land Man City’s 20-year-old prodigy

The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are keeping a close eye on developments with Bruno Alves’ future as he mulls over a potential transfer to Parma.

The Breakdown

Just one year into his Rangers career, it appears that Bruno Alves is set to walk out the Ibrox exit door this summer and move to the recently promoted Serie A side Parma. However, according to a report from The Scottish Sun, Alves could yet remain at Ibrox despite the fact he has agreed terms and passed a medical with the club.

The report states that Alves would need to take a pay cut in order to join Parma and that fact is causing the Portugal international to have doubts over the move.

Steven Gerrard will be hoping that Alves can make a decision on his future shortly so that he can bring in a worthy replacement.

However, Alves’ indecision should not prevent Gerrard from scouting the market for a player to bring into the club, and one man he would be foolish not to consider is Man City’s 20-year-old prodigy Tosin Adarabioyo.

With the likes of Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones providing stiff competition for the aspiring prodigy it’s unlikely that he will break into the first-team in the near future, paving the way for Gerrard to make a loan bid for his services.

Although he is relatively unproven, Adarabioyo has played with a level of composure and confidence on his rare appearances for the club which suggests he has plenty of potential to succeed at the top level.

Man City might well be a bridge too far for him at this stage, but a season-long loan at Rangers is certainly within him limits and it’s a prospect which is bound to appeal to the England youth international.

With first-team opportunities up for grabs Adarabioyo would have a perfect springboard to kickstart his career at Rangers and, with Alves potentially set to depart, there’s no doubt he could cement his place at the heart of the back-four.

The sale of Pablo Maffeo has proven that City are willing to sell their young talents for the right price, so Gerrard should treat a short-term loan deal as a lengthy trial for Adarabioyo to earn a permanent transfer if he eventually makes the switch.

Tottenham fans react to centre-back rumours

According to The Times, Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring a number of defenders as they prepare to replace Toby Alderweireld in this summer’s transfer window.

Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from Spurs since the middle of last season, and the Belgium international is expected to move on.

It is being reported that Spurs have three potential replacements in mind, with Barcelona’s Yerry Mina, Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt and Stuttgart’s Benjamin Pavard all under consideration.

Mina and De Ligt would of course be direct replacements for Alderweireld, but Pavard is more versatile as he can play as either a centre-back or at right-back, as he showed for France at the World Cup.

The Tottenham fans have been reacting to the speculation on social media, and it would be fair to say that Mina proved pretty popular.

The Barcelona centre-back is expected to leave Camp Nou this summer, and demonstrated at the 2018 World Cup that he could be developing into a very good central defender.

Sunderland want McCormack on loan, Aston Villa fans react

It is safe to say that plenty of Aston Villa fans will not be shedding a tear if and when Ross McCormack moves on.

The Scotland international, who has earned 13 caps for the national side, has had a difficult two years at the Midlands outfit.

The 31-year-old failed to find his shooting boots as he scored just three goals in 20 Championship outings.

McCormack was also plagued by injury problems and seemed to fall out with manager Steve Bruce.

The striker signed for the club from Fulham in 2016, but he has since been sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest and Melbourne City.

According to the Daily Mail, it seems that Sunderland are willing to take McCormack off Villa’s hands with the offer of a season-long loan.

The report claims that the Midlands outfit are keen to get rid of the striker, and judging by the social media reaction, the fans feel the same.

Plenty, though, would prefer the Scotsman to leave on a permanent basis.

Revealed: 67% of Fulham fans would rather see Targett return than sign Bryan

As tends to be the case for clubs who enter the Premier League via the Championship play-offs, Fulham have ramped up their summer spending in the closing days of the transfer window.

The impressive capture of Jean Michael Seri has been followed up in recent days by Slavisa Jokanovic securing Andre Schurrle’s return to west London and making countryman Aleksandr Mitrovic a permanent recruit, after a hugely successful loan spell in the second half of last season.

Another loanee who came in mid-season was Southampton left-back Matt Targett, who boosted Jokanovic’s defensive options following the January departure of Cyrus Christie and became a fixture in the team as Fulham rampaged towards promotion.

Jokanovic is reportedly keen on ‘doing a Mitrovic’ with Targett and signing him permanently after a good loan spell but Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan is also apparently on the market at an affordable £6m – and Fulham were linked back in June.

So, we asked the Whites faithful which of the left-backs they would rather see at the Cottage upon their return to the top flight and, perhaps unsurprisingly, promotion hero Targett came out on top…

Cardiff City should swoop for this £13.5m-rated Championship winger to enhance survival chances

Cardiff City are one of the favourites for relegation in this coming Premier League season, with their squad looking relatively thin and lacking quality compared to others in the top flight.

In Neil Warnock though, the club have a manager who can get the best out of his players and it could well be that the Bluebirds surprise a few in the opening few weeks of the campaign.

A relatively quiet summer transfer window has done little to encourage Cardiff fans that they can do well in the top flight, and there is a strong sense that more signings are needed in the next two weeks to enable the Welsh club to have the best possible chance of maintaining their Premier League spot come next May.

We at the Transfer Tavern think Warnock should be looking back into the Championship for new additions, and one player we think could be a superb addition is West Brom winger Nacer Chadli.

The winger, valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, is surely too good to be plying his trade in the second tier, and he is the sort of player who Warnock would be able to get the best out of.

Chadli is someone who has always had plenty of ability and he impressed for Belgium in this summer’s World Cup, ensuring any clubs watching over him were suitably impressed.

Quick, tricky with the ball, and capable of scoring the spectacular, Chadli would be a superb addition for a side like Cardiff, and could well prove the difference between staying up or not.

Cardiff fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Liverpool fans react to potential Besiktas move for Karius

Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to the latest transfer news, as reports claim Besiktas want to sign Loris Karius.

According to Turkish Football, Besiktas have turned their attentions towards Karius after failing in a move for Simon Mignolet.

The report claims the Turkish giants want to take the 25 year-old on a one-year loan deal.

Besiktas sold Fabri to Fulham earlier this summer, so will need to sign another goalkeeper before the European window slams shut.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”278881″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Kane’s Kryptonite & London’s Biggest Losers”]

Karius of course has lost his place at Anfield after his calamitous errors in the Champions League final and pre-season, and it seems fairly unlikely that he’ll ever get his spot back.

Fans have speculated that the 6 ft 2 ace could use a move to a lesser league away from the spotlight, and while the media pressure won’t be the same in Turkey, you’d be hard pushed to find more intense fans than those at Vodafone Park.

Lots of fans have been running the rule over the exit links, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
